What is a climate change?

Climate change corresponds to long-term changes in weather and temperature patterns. Such shifts could be natural like through solar cycle variations. Though, human activities seem to be the main cause of climate change because of the combustion of fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and gas. When we burn fossil fuels, they generate greenhouse gases, which in turn wrap the Earth around like a blanket. As a result, the sun's heat rays get trapped in the earth's atmosphere thereby raising the overall temperature levels. The primary greenhouse gas emissions which affect the global climate include methane and carbon dioxide. A variety of factors lead to climate change including using petrol for vehicles, burning coal for the purpose of heat generation, clearing forests and land, and dumping landfills for garbage. Climatic data indicate that our world is 1.1 degrees Celsius hotter than it was in the 18th century.

The previous decade (2011 to 2020) is the hottest one ever recorded in history. Not only will climate change pave the way to warmer temperatures, but it will also have an adverse impact on the entire ecosystem. A few of them include water scarcity, intense droughts, severe wildfires, rising sea levels, melting of polar ice, flooding, declining biodiversity, and catastrophic storms! In my opinion, it is the need of the hour to address the climate change issue as soon as possible. Decreasing air quality, melting of glaciers, rising seawater levels are fast approaching if we don't act upon it right now!!!
