Technology news: Get set to experience the augmented reality capable smart glasses from Snap!

Technology firm Snap has come up with a new set of smart glasses that supports augmented reality features by the name “Spectacles”. Earlier too, the company has sold a similar line of product, but they were not AR compatible. Instead, they used to be loaded with a camera that can upload content to the Snapchat social networking app.

The target segment of “Spectacles” product will be primarily creators and developers and not the conventional consumers. The AR effects will initially be designed in the Snapchat app by the developers and creators. According to Snap, the developers are expected to use this particular product to create new software experiences for the glasses, which in turn will help them to launch "Spectacles" to common people.

These smart glasses are the first of their kind to include displays for the purpose of superimposing existing Snapchat lenses in the real world. It will allow people to apply and see various Snapchat filters on actual people and objects. The videos will be recorded through 2 cameras, in a similar way as the existing version, and will be shared on the Snapchat app.

The Spectacles is expected to be launched in the coming May month during the annual developer conference by Snap. These advanced AR glasses are coming to market amidst speculations of a possible launch of Apple’s very own AR-powered smart glasses. Apple is currently working on introducing an AR/VR headset, which will possibly be released in 2022. But, a smart glass in the caliber of “Spectacles” that focus on augmented reality is not expected until 2023.
