Indian e-Visa : An introduction

Foreigners whose sole objective to visit India is recreation, sight-seeing, casual visit, attending short
term courses on yoga, local languages, music, arts & crafts, dance, cooking, medicine etc., voluntary work of short duration, medical treatment that is included under Indian medicinal system, business trip, as an attendant to an e-Medical visa holder, conference/workshop/seminar attendees of both government and private bodies are all eligible for obtaining an Indian electronic visa. It is a
requirement for a foreigner to possess a valid passport and a printed copy of Indian e-Visa before
departing from their respective nations to India.

For e-Visa aspirant’s attention:

As per the recent government notification, a single applicant cannot apply for more than one e-Visa
at a time. If more than one e-Visa application is submitted for a passport, it will result in a rejection
altogether. Any such redundancy once observed will be declined immediately. Similarly, a new e-
Visa will not be granted to any applicant if his previously issued visa is still valid even though there is
no mistake in the current e-Visa application.

E-Visa entry points:

The e-Visa service is available in 25 designated airports across India namely Delhi, Mumbai,
Ahmedabad, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Goa, Varanasi, Lucknow,
Chandigarh, Cochin, Amritsar, Jaipur, Trivandrum, Mangalore, Bagdogra, Coimbatore, Guwahati,
Tiruchirapalli, Vishakapatnam, Calicut and Gaya. Additionally, the service can also be availed from 6
of the designated sea-ports such as Mumbai, Chennai, Goa, Mumbai, Cochin and Mangalore.

Other key information:

All the e-Visa applicants have to apply at least four days in advance before landing in India. E-Visa
facilities to India are currently not available for Pakistani passport holders. Travel documents cannot
be used to apply for an e-Visa. Similarly, the e-Visa facility is not available for official and diplomatic
passport holders. More than one e-Visa application cannot be submitted simultaneously. The e-Visa
service can’t be availed by kids who are travelling through their parent’s passport. The ‘visa
approved time’ is not applicable for both Chinese and Sri Lankan passport holders.
