Afghanistan’s budding player Ikram
Ali Khil made history when he broke an age-old record set by the God of
Cricket- Sachin Tendulkar himself!
In Afghanistan’s match against
Bangladesh yesterday, the young wicket-keeper batsman Ikram Ali raised
everyone’s eyebrows by scoring a scintillating knock of 86 against a quality
spin attack of Bangladesh. By scoring these runs, at the age of 18 years and 278
days, he became the youngest player to record a score above 80 runs ever in the
World cup history.
Ikram Ali, who was not the part of
original Afghanistan’s playing squad was called into the team, as Afghanistan’s
premier keeper Shahzad suffered injury recently. Ikram claims that he idolizes
SriLanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and emulates his tendency to frequently rotate the
strike.
Ikram in his own words, “I’m very
proud to have broken the record of a legend like Tendulkar. It makes me very
happy.” Incidentally, this knock is also the best score so far in Ikram’s
cricketing career.
Despite the heroics of individual
players like Rashid, Ikram, Nabi and Mujeeb, the Afghanistan team is yet to
peak as a team and let us hope that it happens soon and Ikram will have a
successful cricketing career for the nation.
