A BRUTAL ROBBERY TODAY AT BANK OF
BARODA- BROADWAY BRANCH!
Broadway,
02-02-2018:
Bank
robberies have increased considerably these days across various metropolitan
cities and Chennai city is not an exception either. Despite numerous efforts by
the city’s police department to curb the occurrence of these incidents and put
those responsible behind the bars, more and more such incidents are happening
now and then. One such brutal incident occurred here right at the heart of the
city, Broadway-Chennai at around 12 pm mid-afternoon
today, whose details are as follows:
It was
around 12 pm in the afternoon when Bank
of Baroda- Broadway branch’s staff Mr
Badri was handling the cashier operations. The bank was crowded since it was
the last working day of the week with several businessmen
submitting their cheques for clearing and conducting various kinds of credit
and debit transactions. Badri too had a hectic day at office keeping track of
the transactions and preparing the day’s report.
Out of the
blue, 3 masked robbers entered the premise and started threatening everyone
with their rifles. When the security guard tried to take control of the
situation, one of the robbers shot him in his leg and nabbed the gun from him. When
Badri, the cashier tried to switch on the emergency alarm, he was dragged out
of his seat and held at gunpoint in front of everyone present at the bank.
Everyone
inside the bank was shell-shocked as they
were left clueless about this precarious situation. But, the robbers seemed thoroughly professional and were quick
enough to shut the entrance gates and they started threatening everyone to
kneel down on the floor. On seeing the chaos inside, the public outside rang
the police and within few minutes, police jeeps started flocking the bank’s
campus. Meanwhile, the robbers threatened everyone to submit their cash &
precious belongings and asked the Branch Manager Mr Siva to let open the chest
and cash dispenser, by threatening to kill Badri if they failed to do so.
While the
police officers were busy trying to find out possible ways to break open inside,
the robbers looted all the money, gold and valuable belongings and fled away
through the back door. It all did not end
there, as they also took Badri as a hostage for safely evicting from the spot. Then, the policemen broke open the front gates and
rescued all the people present inside. Later, they informed the nearby check-post
to stay alert and catch the robbers on their way to escape, by informing the
details of the robbers’ vehicle.
But the culprits anticipated this situation before-hand and escaped by
swapping the vehicles en-route to the check-post. Our sources reveal that still
no reliable information has been known about Badri and about his safety. On being
questioned about this incident, Chennai city’s Assistant Commissioner Mr Babu said
that “A special task force has been
formed and they are on a constant lookout for the criminals both inside and
outside the state as the police believe that they may have fled to other states
as well”.
This is not
the first time that the Chennai city is witnessing this kind of robberies. But, still the fact that such incidents
continue to recur prove that there is no proper framework in place to prevent
these burglaries in the upcoming days too. And, whether this kind of robbers will gain an
upper hand in the near future or the Chennai city’s police department and
the respective officials could rise up to
this challenge is yet to be seen…
