·
Never let water down the drain when there may
be another use for it such as watering a plant/garden or cleaning or flushing
in the toilet.
·
Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessary.
Dispose of tissues, insects and other such waste in dustbin rather than the
toilet.
·
Don’t leave the water running when brushing
or shaving. Get in the habit of closing the tap when not in use.
·
Use a bowl of water to wash fruits and
vegetables rather than running water over them. You can reuse this for your
house plants.
·
Use a single glass for your drinking water
each day or refill a water bottle. This will avoid washing several glasses and
hence saves water.
·
Reuse left over water from cooked or streamed
foods to get a nutritious soup. This avoids dual benefits as it improves our
health as well.
·
Wait until you have a full load before using
your washing machine or dishwasher.
·
Place a cistern displacement device in your
toilet cistern to reduce volume of water using in flush. You can also use dual
flush toilets which use half flush for liquid waste and full flush for solid
waste.
·
Buy water efficient shower heads, taps,
toilets, washing machines and dishwashers.
·
While washing your hands or during
bath/shower turn the water off while you lather.
·
Monitor your water bill for an unusual high
use. This helps us to discover leaks in toilets and tanks.
·
Check all hoses, connectors and taps for
leakage. Reduce usage of recreational water toys such as water guns.
·
Recycle nutrient rich water from fish tanks
to water garden plants.
·
Pour the left over ice cubes from your drink
on flower plants.
