In the words of Philosopher Martin
Heidegger,
“Technology is the
art of arranging the world so that we don’t have to experience it”
Technological
advancements have made our life simpler and have brought us closer by shrinking
our world into a global village. But despite these advancements in
communication, a sense of emptiness has already crept into our daily life.
Though
technology is saving a considerable amount of our time, we are rather becoming
busier than before.
Ever
wondered why?
While we are trying to
concentrate on the work left on our hand, our attention spans are increasingly
on a fall, thanks to the distractions caused by modern technology. This has
indeed made us less efficient causing us to spend more of our time and efforts.
We have
started to live in a digital pre-programmed world and have almost lost track of
the physical world that we are a part of. We are leaning more and more towards
the mechanical life failing to admire the beauty of our life. On one side, We
make Skype calls to people living in the other corner of the world while on the
other side, We don’t even find enough time to get to know our neighbours living
next door.
We keep
boasting about our latest mobiles and trendy gadgets and headphones.
But
how many of us do know the fact that the above mentioned things are the main
cause for majority of accidents occurring across the world?
Children of the current
generation feel a lot closer and connected to their favourite film stars and gaming
heroes of virtual world than to their friends and relatives of real world. With
increasing invasion of technology in our routine life, it will not be a big
surprise if our grandchildren fail to remember our name itself!
Starting
from the era of Sony Walkmans to the latest era of Apple I-pods, the notion of
social space has been single handedly destroyed. Gone are those days where
people would stop to talk on the way and groups congregate at junctions and street
corners.
Nowadays
how many of us are actually visiting our relative’s houses
during normal days?
Even meeting up with our
relatives and well-wishers happens only on some auspicious occasions such as
family functions and festivals.
“For every 10 % increase in what a country
spends on information and communications technology, there is a 1% rise in
obesity rates”
[Source:
Study by Milken institute]
Televisions, tablets and
handheld gaming consoles have made our social collaboration activities such as
heading out to park or getting along with friends almost extinct. This coupled
with unhealthy food habits such as consumption of junk food and snacks have
paved way to Obesity which acts as a gateway to all diseases.
In short
Technology is like a double edged sword. Using it sparingly raises our standard
of living and comfort of living. But over dosage of the same causes a
significant loss in our productivity, relationships and health conditions.
NICE LIFE REQUIRES WISE USE OF TECHNOLOGY!!!
