QUESTION:

Why was the young seagull afraid to fly? Do you think all young birds are afraid to make their first flight, or are some birds more timid than others? Do you think a human baby also finds it a challenge to take its first steps?

ANSWER:

Section 1: Background Context

This particular fear of the seagull arose from his thought that his wings won’t support him and he would eventually fall. When he was abandoned by his family and was left alone on the ledge, he was very hungry. They tried really hard to make him fly but it eventually never happened because of its lack of courage.

Section 2: Explanation

The young seagull was pretty sure that his wings were not strong enough to support his entire body. Even though his brother’s and little sister’s wings were actually shorter than his own, he never realized it. He failed to gather the courage to flap his wings and take a dive into the sky forever. But not all birds are afraid of their first flight. In this same story, the young seagull’s little sister was never afraid of flying. Yet some birds are more timid than others as in this case.

Section 3: Direct Answer

Since it was its very first flight the young seagull was very afraid about flying. It is a known fact that the first attempt of any task is always tough. Hence, all young birds would have butterflies in their stomach during their first flight. Incidentally a human baby might also find it incredibly had to take its first step.
